ABOUT THIS EPISODE

In this episode, we critically examine the politics and secrets surrounding generative AI with professor and former software engineer Harry Surden of Colorado Law. Taking a rare approach in the legal field by applying his computer science background to teaching generative AI’s functionality in enlightening Youtube videos, Harry explains generative AI in layperson’s terms and its impact on law and society. In this conversation, Dave and Harry explore how generative AI’s understanding of human language makes it revolutionary but also presents issues in governance and trade secrecy. Tune in to learn how politics and corporations, particularly the mercurial Sam Altman, continue to shape AI’s development and our future.

“Language is what humans do to convey and implement knowledge. So if you can get a system that can manipulate and generate language, then you’ve built this foundational thing that can help you develop an AI system.”

 -Harry Surden

“The limits of my language means the limits of my world.”

-Ludwig Wittgenstein
